When we speak of Abdul Hafeez, we are not merely recounting a fleeting moment of academic success. Instead, we are tracing a life carved through struggle, fueled by hope, and anchored in patience. Losing his father at a young age was his first harsh trial—not only because of the profound grief it brought, but due to the heavy weight of early responsibility it placed on his shoulders. Yet, the memory of his father—who deeply believed in the power of education—remained a constant source of strength, inspiring him to move forward whenever his steps faltered.
Peace of Mind and Confidence
After his father’s death, his mother stood as an unwavering pillar of support, her continuous prayers guiding his path. Alongside this nurturing family environment came a pivotal turning point that transformed his life: his inclusion in Qatar Charity’s sponsorship program, made possible through the generosity of benevolent donors.
This sponsorship was far more than financial assistance. It restored in him a sense of peace and confidence, enabling him to regain stability and focus fully on his education and future. From that moment on, Abdul Hafeez became firmly convinced that education is the gateway to a better tomorrow.
Driven by this belief, he chose to study law at Mogadishu University, not in pursuit of personal status, but out of a deep conviction that justice is a noble mission—and that legal knowledge gives a voice to the voiceless.
He distinguished himself through discipline and strong time management. Influenced by one of his professors, who instilled in him the principles of critical and responsible thinking, Abdul Hafeez came to see the law not as rigid texts, but as a powerful tool for understanding reality and advancing reform.
Best Oralist
In 2024, Abdul Hafeez took part in an international legal advocacy competition hosted on a platform affiliated with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).
Standing before a panel of judges, he presented a case addressing genocide, drawing on the historical example of the 1994 Rwandan genocide to highlight the grave dangers of impunity.
With a compelling presence and a confident, articulate voice, he earned first place and the title of Best Oralist—an achievement that transcended personal glory to deliver a message of hope to his community and peers.
Best Researcher
Abdul Hafeez did not stop at the power of speech. In 2025, he participated in a legal research competition focused on the application of International Humanitarian Law (IHL). He presented a profound vision, emphasizing that justice cannot be achieved through texts alone, but requires a deep understanding of reality and the empowerment of communities. His insightful work earned him first place as the Best Researcher.
Looking Ahead
Today, Abdul Hafeez aspires to build a future in legal research and contribute to the development of the justice system in Somalia. He aims to pursue postgraduate studies and engage in international forums, while remaining committed to serving his country’s judiciary.
He firmly believes that his achievements would not have been possible without determination and the vital support he received. He dreams of one day giving back, offering others the same support that was extended to him.
