Qatar Charity’s Rofaqaa initiative extends beyond financial support, integrating Quranic education, talent development and faith-based experiences to equip sponsored orphans with the confidence and skills to build stronger futures.
An Integrated Model of Care
Rofaqaa positions orphan sponsorship as the foundation of a comprehensive model encompassing education, spiritual development, social support, healthcare and capacity building. The model brings together three complementary pathways: the Furqan Quranic Education Programme; the Rofaqaa Branch of the Sheikh Jassim bin Mohammed bin Thani Holy Quran Competition; and Umrah journeys for orphans.
Furqan: Quranic Learning and Capacity Building
Launched in October 2024, Furqan provides instruction in the Holy Quran, Quranic studies and Arabic. It strengthens recitation, memorization, tajwid and qira’at; promotes Islamic values; identifies Quranic talent; and develops teachers and instructors. The first phase reached more than 800 sponsored orphans in seven countries before expanding to nine: Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Jordan, Lebanon, Ghana, Mali, Bangladesh, Somalia and Nigeria.
Reported results include a six-month Quranic literacy programme for 60 participants in Ghana, memorization and tajwid tracks for 140 beneficiaries in Mali, and the graduation of 57 students in Bangladesh following a year-long course. In Somalia, a project is training 30 teachers and supporting 50 orphans to strengthen local delivery and long-term sustainability.

Sheikh Jassim Competition: From Learning to Excellence
The Rofaqaa Branch of the Sheikh Jassim Competition gives sponsored orphans an international platform on which to demonstrate their Quranic abilities. In 2026, 389 candidates from 22 countries applied across the 10-juz, 20-juz and full-Quran categories. Of the 284 contestants who took part in the remote preliminary rounds, 40 advanced to intensive preparation, and 30 finalists from eight countries qualified for the finals in Doha.
Umrah Journeys: Faith, Character and Life Skills
By the end of September 2026, the portfolio comprised 13 projects across 13 countries, benefiting 225 orphans. In addition to performing Umrah and visiting the Two Holy Mosques, participants take part in Quran circles, educational sessions, cultural competitions, and leadership and teamwork activities. Training also covers vocal maqamat, ethics, values and personal planning.
