Since the onset of the conflict in Gaza in October 2023, thousands of families have endured acute humanitarian hardship. In response, Qatar Charity intensified its emergency relief operations through direct interventions and strategic partnerships with local, regional, and international organizations, with the aim of meeting essential needs and safeguarding lives across the sectors most severely affected.
Impact on Numbers
Over the two-year reporting period, Qatar Charity implemented 99 projects across a range of sectors, notably emergency relief, food assistance, shelter, education, health, non-food items, water and sanitation, and coordination and logistical support services. Collectively, these interventions reached more than five million people, with a total value of QAR 243 million, underscoring the scale of Qatar Charity’s humanitarian commitment in one of the world’s most challenging operational environments.
Food and Non-Food Assistance
Food assistance constituted the largest area of intervention in terms of both scale and reach. Qatar Charity implemented 61 projects valued at more than QAR 160 million, benefiting nearly three million people. Delivery modalities were adapted to prevailing access conditions and included food baskets, hot meals, and shopping vouchers, with the objective of preserving food security amid shortages of essential commodities and continued price volatility.
In conflict settings, humanitarian needs extend beyond food and medicine; essential household items are equally important to personal safety and dignity. Accordingly, Qatar Charity implemented 14 non-food assistance projects providing blankets, cooking utensils, and hygiene supplies. These interventions benefited more than 88,000 people at a total cost of QAR 33.5 million.
Health and the Air Bridge
The health sector represented one of the most critical areas of intervention. Qatar Charity implemented eight vital projects that benefited more than half a million people. These interventions included the provision of fuel to hospitals, medicines and medical supplies, and the rehabilitation of health facilities, at a total cost of QAR 8.5 million. Through the humanitarian air bridge, Qatar Charity also supported the shipment of 29,120 packs of antibiotics in cooperation with the Qatar Fund for Development and Qatar Red Crescent Society, in response to the acute shortage of life-saving medicines.
General Relief
Within the framework of its general relief response, Qatar Charity implemented seven essential humanitarian projects designed to alleviate the hardship experienced by affected communities. The interventions reached more than 37,000 people, with a total value exceeding QAR 25 million. By providing urgent necessities to affected families, these projects demonstrated Qatar Charity’s commitment to delivering timely and effective assistance in crisis settings.
Education
In Gaza’s education sector, Qatar Charity implemented a targeted project during the two-year reporting period, benefiting more than 5,000 students. The project encompassed the provision of school bags and essential educational materials, the rehabilitation of classrooms, and the award of student scholarships, at a cost exceeding QAR 2 million. This intervention reflects Qatar Charity’s commitment to safeguarding children’s right to education despite the prevailing humanitarian challenges.
Water and Shelter
Given the significant operational constraints associated with access to Gaza, Qatar Charity implemented three coordination and logistical support projects that reached more than 1.3 million people, at a total cost of QAR 7.3 million. Water and sanitation also remained a priority: four projects were implemented to provide safe drinking water, install water storage tanks, and deliver sanitation solutions. These interventions benefited approximately 48,000 people at a cost of QAR 4.7 million. In addition, Qatar Charity addressed urgent shelter needs through a project that provided tents and essential supplies to 50 people, at a cost of QAR 500,000.
