Qatar Charity supports social integration in crises through model housing communities, youth and peacebuilding initiatives, and social protection centers for people affected by conflict and disaster.

In fulfilment of its commitment to advancing social development, Qatar Charity places community and psychosocial stability, together with social integration, at the forefront of its humanitarian interventions. In 2025, the organization implemented more than 391 humanitarian interventions across 45 countries affected by crises and disasters. These interventions reached approximately 10 million beneficiaries, with a total expenditure of QAR 597,982,097. Operations were concentrated in the Gaza Strip, Syria, Sudan, Yemen, Morocco, and Rohingya communities, with particular emphasis on strengthening local capacities to promote empowerment and long-term sustainability.

Qatar Charity’s humanitarian portfolio in support of community stability and social integration encompasses shelter initiatives, including model residential communities for populations affected by crises and disasters, engagement in development and peacebuilding initiatives, and the establishment and operation of social protection centers.

B. Youth Initiatives for Social Integration in Crises

The “Sport for Development and Peace” Initiative: A Model

Overview: This joint Qatari initiative brings together the Qatar Fund for Development, Qatar Charity, and other partners. It harnesses sport as an effective instrument for positive change, peacebuilding, human development, and the empowerment of young people and vulnerable communities in areas affected by conflict and crisis. The initiative equips participants to serve as agents of change within their communities and as sports coaches capable of advancing peace and development.

Field Implementation in Somalia: Under this initiative, Qatar Charity implemented a high-impact project in Garowe, Puntland State, Somalia, in partnership with the Qatar Fund for Development and in cooperation with the International Centre for Sport Security. Garowe was selected in view of its significance as an administrative centre and the challenges it faces, including internal displacement, limited infrastructure, and an urgent need for programmes that reinforce social cohesion and mitigate the risk of young people being drawn into conflict.

Launched in November 2022, the project targeted more than 10,000 young people, children, and members of their families. It delivered capacity-building programmes and targeted support to empower vulnerable groups. Key activities included an inter-school football tournament, sports clinics in displacement camps, and a training-of-trainers programme designed to build local expertise. Workshops were also conducted for 50 participants, including teachers and representatives of sports federations and municipalities. Sports equipment was provided to support the initiative’s long-term sustainability.

C. Social Protection Centers for Social Integration in Crises

One illustrative example is the center supported by Qatar Charity in Azaz Camp, near the Syrian Turkish border. The facility provides a safe and protective environment for children and families affected by crises and contributes to strengthening their psychosocial well-being.

Additional information on this center is provided in the reports on high-impact projects and success stories under the title “Our Children Are Our Responsibility Centre.”
